New York City native and Prince superfan, Derick Lugo finds himself one day struck with inspiration and courage to set out on what would be the start of a life-changing adventure: thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail. This led to a calling of hiking our nation’s longest trails and seeing the rich beauty the US has to offer. Sharing his unique perspective of being a POC on the trail, Derick tells his stories and experience in a new book series. Following his first book, Derick hosted the ‘Unlikely Stories Podcast’ with co-host, Carly Moree, showcasing unlikely trailblazers in the world of hiking and world exploration. The design direction for the cover illustration depicts Derick in bold color to show his perspective of being a POC, while reflecting the real world color of what he sees in his glasses.
